Hills Road Topping Out Ceremony
On Friday 5th December Ashe Construction held a topping out ceremony at their current project, building offices for Jesus College on Hills Road, in Cambridge. Christopher Pratt, the Bursar of Jesus College, took on the prestigious task of tightening the last bolt and even poured some champagne to celebrate reaching this stage in the build. The whole project team went to the event to enjoy what has been accomplished to date, with a well-earned drink and bite to eat.
Contract Manager Paul Akerman said“Considering this could have been a very tricky project, with a tight time schedule, the team has pulled together excellently and helped this build to run smoothly. The building is taking shape nicely and I look forward to seeing the final product.”
The project involves the demolition of a garage block and design and construction of the new four storey office accommodation. Construction consists of piled foundations, some underpinning on an adjacent annex and reinforced concrete frame with steel and glulam timber structure to the fourth storey. The roof consists of a single ply system with facades and a combination of brickwork and curtain walling. The building is highly insulated with a passive ventilation system.
