Fire Safety & Strategy Seminar

Yesterday evening, Ashe hosted the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Constructing Excellence (HBCE) club, for a presentation and seminar on fire safety and strategy in construction, and the potential changes following Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.

Graham Mills, the Chair of HBCE, began the evening with a seminar on cladding and fire safety for hi-rise buildings. His presentation detailed the current guidance and misinterpretations, the interim Hackitt report, and summarised the final report. With key information such as a summary of how to measure the height of building for external surface requirements compared to the requirements to measure for provisions for external surfaces of walls, Graham’s talk was an excellent introduction to the importance of fire safety and strategies.

Ashe’s Technical Director, Daniel Armes, was the second speaker of the evening with his presentation on the changes Ashe have made since the Grenfell tower fire and how our approach to fire strategy has been reviewed, developed, and implemented. Dan discussed the successes of Ashe’s early adoption of a more robust fire safety plan and how this could work for other organisations throughout the construction industry.

The evening was well attended and Ashe were happy to welcome the club to their offices for such an important topic.
