Letchworth Garden City’s Gateway project blooms

We’re delighted to announce that our work on the Letchworth Gateway project is now complete.

This £16 million redevelopment by Aberdeen Standard Investments has transformed the previously long-vacant four-and-a-half acre plot at 1 Avenue One in Letchworth into a dynamic mixed-use development.  The area is now home to a McDonald’s drive-through, a 73-room Travelodge and a Costa Coffee café (with drive-through), while the Aldi supermarket chain is currently putting the finishing touches to its interior.

The project, which included demolition and rebuilding, has created more than 150 jobs, greater choice for food retail, much needed higher quality accommodation and economic benefit to the Hertfordshire town by attracting more people to the area.

Ashe won the contract at the start of 2018 with completion planned to ensure that the development was up and running for the public by summer 2019.

It’s another successful project completion for Ashe, whose final contract value was just over £9m. Judging from the non-stop traffic visiting the new establishments since the site has opened, we think Letchworth Gateway is also a roaring success.
